DEXEUS DIGITAL MUMS, I PARTICIPATE AS A CONFERENCER

This week I had my annual review on Dexeus. I have been going to this hospital for many years. I can say that they have taken care of my health at different stages of my life. There I had my first gynecological controls as a teenager and there I had my daughter Valentina. In between, lots of life and lots of history. I have always been clothed and attended by excellent professionals, so for them I only have very good words. I was delighted to be chosen to participate as a lecturer in their Dexeus Digital Mums 2017 event, an initiative that brought together many mothers and, above all, many of my readers in Barcelona that I loved to say hello to. I have on top of my desk some data from a childcare expert (in a few days I will publish the interview that I have done) that are quite discouraging. They have to do with motherhood and career. According to a study by the IESE Business School, 57% of women who are mothers have resigned from jobs because they are considered incompatible with family life. Fifty percent say that being a mother has prevented them from achieving greater professional projection. Although I do not like to read it, whether it’s my case or not, I’m more or less in agreement, my friends, this is the reality. With my first child I reduced the working day and with it my salary, however, I teleworked all day and answered the phone during unpaid hours. When the second was born, I decided to put myself on my own. I lost my directive status but won my life. My decision, although it has brought uncertainty and fear, I do not deny it, it has made me very happy. Currently, I do what I like most and with the flexibility of time that I establish for myself. But for everyone, sadly, this is not so. It has not been easy for me either.

There are many friends who have told me: “you could because you are very fierce” or “because you are an entrepreneur”. However, I never thought I had an entrepreneurial profile. Let’s just say I had no choice but to fight. The problem today is no longer just the few public policies to help the family for greater reconciliation, male and female, but the worrying decline in fertility rate. According to the INE in the year 2015 there were more births of mothers aged 40 and 41 than of 24 and 25 years. It is a 15 year jump that for no one is new.

Recently, a program in the regional channel addressed this reality. In the phenomenon of late motherhood, there were phrases such as “I am not yet independent”, “I have no job stability”, “I have no stable partner”, “the labor market is precarious” … The truth is that more than half go people between 25 and 29 years of age do not live in pairs (and most of them still live in their parents’ homes). State policies on the family are discouraging. The reduction of hours and salary that often involves maternity and child care, sometimes leads to professional stoppage. Women with children have occupational hours of more than 15 hours a day.

When I was interviewed in Dexeus Digital Mums for the video below you will see them asking me the entire time, “but can you live on this?” They referred to my profession as a journalist, professional blogger, content generator or storyteller, call it whatever you want. And I said NO. And they would look at me in disbelief and ask me the same question again and say, ‘But you do live for this.’ I’m not going to fool you. I found in the digital world a space to reinvent myself but I do not just live on it. I am a teacher and I teach, I participate in conferences, I work as an external consultant of companies in digital communication, in short, I do many things a day. And I dedicate to my 6 blogs and to my 19 social networks, many more of the 15 hours that I commented to you before. This is how you can live, but who is willing to endure so much effort and workload? This is not jauja.

At the Dexeus Digital Mums conferences we gave all key participants to help women reinvent themselves. All those who spoke there were struggling mothers. I am left with some of their inspiring ideas that I summarize here: “You will see little by little and be constant,” said Dr. Sofia Fournier; If you are going to make the leap “do in life what you really love,” insisted Sara Lopez; “It’s not about undertaking, it’s about creating your work for you,” explained Isabel Leyva; “Show yourself the way you are,” said Victoria Peñafiel; “Find your formula,” advocated Esther Martinez; “Plan, control your schedule and look for time for yourself,” said Rebeca Zorzano. I can not agree more with all of them. If you are happy, if you are well, you will make those around you happy as well and you will be able to arrive home late at night, but with a smile on your face, the same as you will have in the morning, when you wake up, because your life guides yourself and because every day you will do what you really want and be excited about it.

Thank you Dexeus for trusting me and thank you to my readers and the brands that support me for giving me the opportunity to dedicate myself to what I like most in this life. By the way, this event was also supported by brands that deserve to be cited in this blog: Bugaboo, Mundo Tipis, Julie Julie and Sensai.

Me alegro mucho.
